The hormonal IUD is one of the most effective forms of reversible contraception available and has important non-contraceptive health benefits. Despite these advantages, there remain many unknowns regarding the potential demand for the hormonal IUD if the method were offered at scale, especially given that use of the copper IUD has typically been low in many countries in sub-Saharan Africa due to persistent supply- and demand-side issues

The global consortium is working to conduct market research to better understand potential demand for the hormonal IUD among different potential user groups. This includes qualitative message testing and quantitative consumer research. Demand forecasting models are being developed and well as user profiles and archetypes.
